The relief provided in a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is immediate upon the case being filed. At that time the Federal Court will issue a Retraining Order, called an Automatic Stay, which will stop any further collections activities. Consequently, any pending lawsuits, garnishments, phone calls, billing statements, collection notices, emails, and/or text messages from creditors will end.
The Stay will remain in effect during the entire pendency of the Bankruptcy. As long as you to successfully complete the case process you will then receive a Discharge, which is a Court Order permanently precluding your creditors from collecting the balances due.
